This FBI Biosecurity Workshop is organized by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety incooperation withthe Office of Research.Many individuals and groups have expressed the intent to attack the United States with biological weapons. In order to further their plans, these individuals may target laboratories, biotechnology companies, scientists, and students. Thegoal of thisworkshop is to improve cooperation among law enforcement agencies and research institutions to mitigate potential biosecurity issues that may affect public health and safety. The FBI Academic Biosecurity Workshop will:
Increase awareness of potential biosecurity risksIdentify biosecurity roles and responsibilities of law enforcement agenciesIdentify biosecurity roles and responsibilities of research institutionsIdentify benefits and potential obstacles to improve cooperation among law enforcement agencies and research institutions regarding biosecurityIdentify methods of improving communications among biosecurity stakeholdersEstablish and solidify mutually beneficial relationships between law enforcement, research institutions, and community stakeholders. This workshop will be held at the University of Miami Clinical Research Building (CRB), Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education (first-floor auditorium), 1120 NW14th Street, Miami.
