Dead Stars "...Dead Stars have some immediately familiar sounds even on the first listen—Pixies' loud-soft-loud trademark, Built to Spill, Pavement and Hum when they decide to unleash the wall of guitars. Anyone claiming to be a fan of those bands should get this album today..." Fan-Tan "Brooklyn post-punk trio Fan-tan began in 2007 when Ryan Lee and Sandee K moved from Chapel Hill, NC to Brooklyn, NY. After four years of touring and recording, they met drummer Mike Sherburn while on the road to SXSW in 2011. Fan-tan’s debut LP, A Strange Game, is slated for release in March of 2013 on Goodnight Records. The first single, “1989”, was released in summer 2011 and is available for free download at http://fan-tan.bandcamp.com. In August of 2012 a second single from the LP, "Window", was premiered by The Deli Magazine. Melding melodic guitar noise with icy rhythmic arrangements haloed by sharp, lilting vocals, their sound recalls a more rigid My Bloody Valentine or a less rigid Gang of Four. A more dramatic Jesus and Mary Chain. A kinder Suicide." Osekre and the Lucky Bastards "This Afro-indie band can't be pinned to any one genre but instead transcends all, with lyrical and reflective beats. The band "turns local sounds global and brings global sounds local" with its clear African influence, but its sound goes beyond this, creating a universal funk that anyone would want to jam to. $10
