The story of Queen Esther and her Uncle Mordecai's saving the Jews of Shushan, Persia is still celebrated around the world. This tradition began in Florida in the 1880s when Purim Balls were the social event of the season in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Pensacola and Key West. The Jewish Museum of Florida carries on this annual tradition through a festive gala that brings Florida Jewish history to life.
