From one icon to another, this February, Macy’s, an American retail institution salutes American cultural hero Gordon Parks in celebration of Black History Month. Via special events and exhibits at select stores across the country, Macy’s will honor the legacy of this artistic master who chronicled and defined a generation and whose work continues to inspire artists today. At 2:00pm in the Home store, celebrate the life of Gordon Parks by viewing iconic images in our photographic art installation featuring some of his most beloved works, such as American Gothic, Washington D.C. 1942. Additionally, join us “In Conversation” with actor Lamman Rucker moderated by Local 10 News Anchor Neki Mohan, for a spirited discussion on Gordon Parks’ influence on film and the future of African-American cinema. Others on the panel include Dr. Dorothy Jenkins Field, Founder of The Black Archives and Michelle Madison, Producer and Host of Miami Now TV.
Following the panel discussion at 3:30pm, boogie on down as we pay homage to the soul/funk 70’s era music featured in the movie Shaft, directed by Gordon Parks. Stop by our Soul Jam style dance party … and don’t forget to pack your platforms and bellbottoms!
