Boogie on over to Country Village Park for a retro disco dance party led by legendary Miami “Open House” band Mantrap. The local band rose to international fame at the start of the disco era in the late ‘70s with their chart-topping single “Disco Lights” and album “Disco Fantasy”. The group will perform live in concert at Country Village Park on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free. This live musical performance is part of the season’s expanded Noches Tropicales/Tropical Nights free concert series presented by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and sponsored by Target. The Noches Tropicales series was founded by Miami-Dade County District 10 Commissioner Javier Souto.
The Mantrap band was formed in the early ‘70s by a group of Miami Senior High School teens who began their music career performing at local dances known as “Open House” events. The band recorded and released their first album Mantrap in 1975, followed by Disco Fantasy in 1977. In 2009, after a near 30-year hiatus, the group reunited to bring back their popular Miami sound. Mantrap continues to record and perform at concert venues across South Florida. Their live performances include songs by KC and the Sunshine Band, Gloria Gaynor, Santana, Malo, and many more.
Mantrap’s most recent albums, Lost Memories (2010) and Heart and Soul (2012), are the band’s musical memoirs to the Miami “Open House” era. The group is in the process of recording their next album Emotional Surrender.
Country Village Park is located at 6550 NW 188 Terr., Miami. Noches Tropicales concert goers are encouraged to bring along a blanket, chairs and snacks to better enjoy the festivities. In the event of rain concerts may be cancelled. Concert performers are subject to change.
