Since 1946, MCCJ has awarded the coveted Silver Medallion to outstanding leaders who have exhibited extraordinary humanitarian efforts in the community that mirror MCCJ’s mission of creating an inclusive community. Each dinner is an opportunity to come together and celebrate Miami’s diversity, in appreciation of those who have helped to build a more welcoming, inclusive, just and cooperative society. Calvin Hughes from WPLG Local 10 will host the event along with chairs George Feldenkreis and Marita Srebnick and honorary chairs Thelma Gibson, Dorothy & Aaron Podhurst and Jackie & Robert Traurig. The MCCJ Board Chair is Georgina A. Angones.
MCCJ is proud to announce that the 2014 Humanitarian Awards go to Dr. Nelson Adams, Martin Fine, Dr. Barth Green and Penny Shaffer. The Clergy Award will go to Archbishop Thomas Wenski.
The black-tie event will include a reception, seated dinner and after-party at The Four Seasons Hotel.
MCCJ was founded in Miami in 1935 as the Miami Coalition of Christians & Jews. It creates a safe haven for dialog, trains inclusive leaders and promotes understanding for all faiths, races and cultures through education, advocacy and conflict resolution. It hosts the oldest interfaith clergy dialog in the United States and presents prejudice reducing programs in local high schools, among other activities.
