A Michigan child has been charged with two felony counts, and his father wants to know why he was in police custody to begin with.

According to WXMI, Edward Hart, whose stepfather, Robert Bluhm, says has special needs and anger issues, ran away from school.

Police said in the WXMI report that a teacher and principal chased after him, before a third school employee found him a block away at a store.

Police were  requested to drive the boy back to the school, and when asked his name, Edward, according to police, cursed at and assaulted the officer.

The Blaze reported that Edward also broke a camera in the cruiser.

The 8-year-old is charged with destroying police property, resisting and obstructing.

According to the Daily Mail, the police department is also asking $50 to repair the broken camera.
