U.S. border protection officials intercepted nearly 2,500 pounds of alleged marijuana concealed in a shipment of fresh carrots from Mexico.

According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, officers searched the vehicles, and with some help from a K-9 unit, found the packages of suspected narcotics disguised to look like carrots.

Officers removed and seized a total of 2,817 carrot-shaped packages of alleged marijuana, which carry and estimated street value of $499,000, officials say.
