BALTIMORE — Doctors made an emergency delivery on Thursday after a pregnant woman and a man were killed in a drive-by shooting in Baltimore, authorities said.
The baby’s condition is “grave,” Police Commissioner Michael Harrison told reporters at a news conference, according to WJZ-TV. The child’s condition is due to its premature delivery, the television station reported.
The woman died shortly after delivering the baby, WBAL-TV reported. The man was pronounced dead upon arrival at an area hospital, according to the television station.

Baltimore police said the victims were shot while sitting in their car at about 8 p.m. EDT, according to the television station. Harrison said the victims had just pulled into a parking spot when a vehicle with at least two suspects inside pulled up and opened fire, WJZ reported.
“I can stand tonight and tell you a whole bunch of things, but what we really need to focus on the fact is that something caused this to happen, and to be quite honest and frank, I don’t give a (expletive) what the conflict was,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said during a news conference. “We cannot have folks shooting at pregnant women in our city.”
