According to the Willmar Police Department, the 41-year-old man was hit by a bullet that penetrated a wall at about 7:40 p.m., KMSP reported.

Family members said they saw the man collapse suddenly, the television station reported.

When police and emergency medical service personnel arrived at the home, they discovered the man had been wounded in the chest, according to a news release from Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt.

Police officers found a bullet hole that had penetrated the garage wall and traveled toward the area where the man had been working, the West Central Tribune reported. The bullet appeared to have come from somewhere off the homeowner’s property.

Resuscitation efforts continued as the man was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, WCCO reported.

The man’s identity had not been released as of late Saturday.

Saturday morning, the Willmar Police Department SWAT Team served a high-risk search warrant on another home in the area as part of its investigation, the Tribune reported. No arrests were made.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, Felt said in the news release, adding that there was no evidence to indicate the victim was an intended target or victim.
