Toyota recalls its first all-electric vehicle over concerns about loose wheels

TOKYO — The world’s largest automaker is recalling 2,700 of its bZ4X SUVs after regulators said that the wheels could come off the vehicle.

According to Reuters, Japanese regulators discovered that sharp turns or sudden braking could loosen the bolts in the hub. Toyota said this could cause the whole wheel to come off the vehicle, causing a crash.

“Until the remedy is available, no one should drive these vehicles,” the company said in a statement.

No accidents have been connected to the issue.

Toyota’s bZ4X crossover was launched two months ago and is the company’s first mass-produced electric vehicle.

According to The Associated Press, the vehicles subject to the latest recall are around 2,200 destined for Europe, 270 for North America, 112 for Japan, and 60 for the rest of Asia. They were produced between March and June.
