Dog lost during hit-and-run reunited with family

VERNON, Conn. — A dog that was lost earlier in the week after running from the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident was reunited with his family Saturday, police said.

Vernon police said Andrew Aggarwala was killed Tuesday while walking his dog. The driver of the vehicle that struck him left the scene before police arrived. Aggarwala’s dog, Ollie, fled during the incident, WVIT reported. Animal control officers searched for him all week.

Investigators said a vehicle believed to have been involved in the accident was seized during a traffic checkpoint Wednesday, but no arrests have been made.

Aggarwala has two children and was well known in the community for his volunteer work as a youth sports coach.

“Andrew was well-loved among our club and will be missed,” Vernon Soccer Club President Keith Hodson said. “Andrew was a dedicated board member, coach and friend to all who knew him. He was recognized with multiple awards for his volunteerism and community involvement. Andrew was to be the recipient of our 2020 Volunteer of the Year for his dedication to the Town of Vernon and its youth.”

This puppy belongs to the victim of yesterday’s fatal hit and run. He had a brown leash attached to him at the time of the accident. If found please call the number below.
